A Harris County jury is deliberating in the case of a police officer who is accused of fatally shooting Pamela Turner during an encounter at her Baytown apartment complex.

Jurors mulled over the case for four hours Monday, after prosecutors and defense attorneys presenting closing arguments. If Delacruz is found guilty of a charge of aggravated assault by a public servant, a first-degree felony, he could serve between five years to life in prison. “I agree with that this didn’t have to happen,” Cagle told the jury. “Pamela Turner made the decision to evade arrest, resist arrest, take a weapon from a police officer.” The body-worn camera footage was played for jurors and show the two struggling but not her attempt to wield the Taser. Gunshots follow and she can be seen motionless on the ground. Delacruz made no attempt during that time to order Turner to drop the Taser, according to the video.
