Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joins several thousand mourners at a vigil to remember a Canadian Muslim family killed in what police say was a premeditated hate crime.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has joined several thousand mourners at a vigil to honour members of a Canadian Muslim family killed in what police said was a premeditated hate crime. On Sunday, four members of the Muslim family were killed as they were out on an evening walk

"This was an act of evil. But the light of the people here today, the light of the lives of the Afzaal family, that will always outweigh the dark," Mr Trudeau said."Never allow anyone to make you think otherwise because of the colour of your skin, your faith, or where you were born. … This is our city and we're not going anywhere.

"The London Muslim Mosque, it's the second-oldest mosque in Canada. … This London [Muslim] community here has helped build this city," said Omar Khamissa, community engagement officer of the National Council of Canadian Muslims nonprofit group. Nathaniel Veltman, 20, was charged with driving a pickup truck onto a curb and hitting the family in London, a city of over 400,000 people located 200 kilometres south-west of Toronto.
