All sides are now resigned to the reality that the fight over abortion rights has reverted to the states. The first true electoral battleground is Tuesday's Kansas primary race, writes Sky News Australia Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen.
The power to make laws on abortion reverted back to the states, 13 of which had already enacted trigger laws to immediately ban or restrict access.President Joe Biden gave a fiery speech calling the reversal “extreme ideology and a tragic error by the Supreme Court”.His Vice President Kamala Harris followed suit, promising to lead congressional action that quickly stalled in a split senate.

After Roe v Wade was finally handed down, it wasn’t long before the emergency fences thrown up around the Supreme Court were rendered pointless.Police reports from the smattering of protests detailed the number of people who’d passed out from heat stroke, and not much more.

If enacted, the vote will change the state constitution to allow the Kansas Legislature to make its own state laws on abortion.With a Republican super majority in place, it would effectively clear the way for an abortion ban in the state.
