Shadow home affairs spokeswoman Karen Andrews will quit the opposition frontbench after Liberal leader Peter Dutton announces his reshuffle on Tuesday morning.

It is understood that Andrews has been weighing quitting politics for some time and her decision is unrelated to the Voice to parliamentary debate.

The QLD MP had briefly put her hand up for a leadership role following the defeat of the Morrison government in 2022.in order to campaign for a Yes vote in the referendum after the Liberal party resolved to oppose the Voice. The Coalition’s two Indigenous senators - Northern Territory Country Liberal Party senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price and South Australian Liberal Kerrynne Liddle - areto assistant ministers. Both women are first term MPs are opposed to the Voice, with their addition to the frontbench to add strength to Dutton’s campaign against the referendum.
