According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Kate Middleton prefers to get her children “practical gifts” because she worries they have too much screen time.
According to Nicholl, the royal kids—especially 7-year-old George and 6-year-old Charlotte—are, like pretty much every other kid fortunate enough to have access to technology, gadgets, and the internet, big fans of all of the above. Unfortunately for their potentially tech-heavy Christmas lists, however, their parents are strict about screen time.
“George enjoys his iPad at school, both he and Charlotte are quite tech-savvy, and, like most children, there probably are technical gadgets and such like on their wish list,” Nicholl explained. “If it is something that happens to be a computer game or something like that, then they are cautious of screen time, so it could be a more practical gift.
“Kate is usually very strict on screen time and keeps it to a minimum,” Nicholl said. “[The Cambridge family has] got climbing frames, swings and a pond, and each of the children are in charge of their own little patch of the kitchen garden.”
