In an Instagram post and a lengthier essay on her website, Couric writes candidly about her diagnosis to encourage other women to get screened for the disease. “Every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States,” she writes on Instagram. “On June 21st, I became one of them.”
“When I called back, Dr. Drossman picked up right away,” Couric writes in the essay. “’Your biopsy came back. It’s cancer. You’re going to be fine but we need to make a plan.’ I felt sick and the room started to spin. I was in the middle of an open office, so I walked to a corner and spoke quietly, my mouth unable to keep up with the questions swirling in my head….
