Kaylee McKeown has given a young swimming fan the memento of a lifetime after winning Olympic gold. The 23-year-old Aussie had only minutes earlier defended her 100m backstroke title from Tokyo 2020 in an epic Paris race when she had the presence of mind to share the moment with a random kid. McKeown stormed home in Wednesday morning’s final to beat American pair Regan Smith and Katharaine Berkoff with an Olympic record and personal best time of 57.33.
And it’s really cool that she could give it to me.” The youngster, who is in just her second year of high school, said it had been surreal to be on the other side of the globe when she was meant to be in class. “All the people and all the surroundings of all of Paris and all the amazing French people and how kind they are,” Imogen said when asked what her favourite part about being at the Olympics was.
