Northern Ireland took on Kazakhstan in Astana on Sunday afternoon
Northern Ireland crashed to a fifth successive defeat as Kazakhstan made it back-to-back wins against Michael O'Neill's side.
Maksim Samorodov's first-half strike was enough to earn the hosts a crucial win and send them level on points with Finland at the top of Group H. Northern Ireland remain fifth on three points, that coming from a sole success against minnows San Marino in the opening game of the campaign.Samorodov's goal was a rare moment of quality in the game, the striker turning Dan Ballard on the edge of the box before rifling a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.Conor McMenamin was inches away from scoring his first Northern Ireland goal, only for Samorodov to get in a goal-line challenge to deny the St Mirren winger.
