Onions are a staple in many households, but they can go off quickly if not stored correctly. One expert has shared a simple trick to keep them fresh for longer
Farmers and storage experts recommend storing onions in a dry, well-ventilated area of your home. Bruce L Frasier, president of Texas-based Dixondale Farms, which has been growing onions since 1913, told Yahoo! Life: "Store onions in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location, such as a garage or cellar."
However, there's more to onion storage than just keeping them dry and ventilated. They can last even longer with a simple trick involving an unlikely tool - a pair of pantyhose. His method involves using clean, sheer pantyhose: put an onion in the leg, tie a knot above it, then add another onion and repeat. Hang the filled pantyhose in a cool, dry area with good airflow.
