The Light Blues boss was handed his jotters on Sunday night and our man has his say.
If these were ordinary circumstances - in a more stable, less frenzied environment - then Michael Beale might reasonably have expected to survive in his role as Rangers manager.
And yet Beale’s inexperience was only part of the problem, albeit a considerable one. In times of trouble, such as he was drowning in, the Londoner had very few previous learnings to draw down on. Nor, for that matter, any back catalogue of work to provide irrefutable proof that he might still have been able to scramble his way out of it.
There was absolutely no sign of clear strategy or even a hint that he knew where he’s going. Or what he was trying to achieve. Which is why a state of blind panic erupted all around him, among a support which was no longer willing to sit on its hands and hope for the best while their house was being trashed by an apprentice painter and decorator.
And, by doing so, he took a team which was deemed unfit for purpose in Scotland’s Premiership in the first place and downgraded it substantially. Sam Lammers is wearing Ryan Kent’s old No.14 shirt but failing to make it fit the way the last man did. At the very least, by sticking by them and allowing them to play their way into form, Beale might have conveyed the impression of a man who knew what he was doing. And that may in turn have bought him more time with a support which wanted so desperately to be impressed.
