Labor powerbrokers are considering a move by their deputy Senate leader Kristina Keneally to the House of Representatives by clearing the way for her to run for the Western Sydney seat of Fowler.

The solution being worked on by the NSW Right is in response to the continuing battle between the former NSW Premier and Deborah O’Neill for the top right-wing Senate spot, with the third spot on the ticket seen as less winnable, and the second spot to go to the Left faction.

Senior Labor sources confirmed the NSW head office was considering the move of Keneally as a solution to the stoush.Fowler, which is being vacated by the retiring MP Chris Hayes at the election, is held by Labor with a 14 per cent margin. Ms Keneally, of course, has been a lower house candidate before, failing to win the seat of Bennelong off John Alexander during a 2017 by-election caused by the section 44 dramas experienced by the Turnbull government.

Any move to the lower house might ignite some speculation about the leadership ambitions of Keneally, the shadow home affairs spokeswoman, who was a Sky News presenter after she was NSW’s first female Premier from 2009-2011, but the proposed move is said to be more about the Senate preselection.
