“Who would believe in 1963 that 60 years later we would have the first African-American woman in our history on the Supreme Court,” said 16th Street Baptist Church Pastor Arthur Price, who made the announcement alongside Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman on the nation’s highest court, will be the featured speaker at the 60th anniversary memorial service commemorating the bombing at 16th Street Baptist Church on Sept. 15, 1963 that killed four girls.
The city of Birmingham will host the 2023 Forging Justice commemoration week Sept. 10-16, 2023. The community is invited to share in a series of discussions with nationally acclaimed leaders, a conference on healing, art interpretations, a film screening, a visit by international dignitaries in addition to the keynote speech by Jackson.
