Kevin Smith thinks Ben Affleck's Batman could come back in a Dark Knight Returns movie, and Affleck's Batman would indeed fit this story well.
Kevin Smith thinks Ben Affleck could return as Batman in a movie based on The Dark Knight Returns, and Affleck's Batman would be absolutely perfect for that. Ben Affleck would first portray Batman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though the infamous reshoots on 2017's Justice League would lead Affleck to step down as Batman, including from his planned Batman movie.
Obviously, the trajectory of Affleck's Batman ends up being different from The Dark Knight Returns, with Bruce Wayne assembling the Justice League and spearheading the team's efforts to resurrect the deceased Superman. Even still, the Batman embodied by Ben Affleck has all the grit and seasoned strength of The Dark Knight Returns's Batman as a Caped Crusader who has fought many villains and been in the trenches for 20 years.
To be sure, with the story building from Zack Snyder's Justice League and the conflict with Superman already seen in Batman v Superman, Affleck's script would seem likely to maintain its Batman vs. Deathstroke essence. However, a Dark Knight Returns spin on Affleck's script could happen with the Joker having a role, possibly arriving to kick Batman when he's down in the movie's story of Deathstroke ruining Bruce Wayne's life.
