F1: Monaco has been locked in for F1 until at least 2031, after some conjecture around whether the famous location would continue in the F1 Calendar.
Iconic Monaco GP here to stay? | 00:29The Monaco Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least the end of 2031 after organisers agreed to move the race from its historic May weekend.
The race would eventually become uncoupled from the Christian holiday but retained a permanent slot on the last weekend of May. Monte Carlo agreeing to move, however, will facilitate “Formula 1’s sustainability endeavours and its ambition to create a calendar which is sustainable for all stakeholders,” the sport said in a statement.
The calendar is capped at 24 rounds by agreement between both Formula 1 and the FIA, but already a 25th race — the Madrid Grand Prix — is set to join the schedule in 2026. The historic Italian Grand Prix in Monza is expected to keep its annual place, but Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort and Barcelona are all tipped to become rotational events.
Domenicali has already talked about the possibility of returning to Argentina to leverage massive interest in the former host nation following Franco Colapinto’s F1 debut with Williams earlier this year. With the 21-year-old likely to find a seat on next year’s grid in either the Red Bull program or at Alpine, the odds of a second race in South America to twin with Brazil will rise considerably.
Qiddiya is also expected to be a host city for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, for which Saudi Arabia was the only bidder.
