Manager of Kids Helpline Tony Fitzgerald says families should be mindful of mental health and wellbeing in children as the country prepares to return to the classroom.
“Being home with mum and dad to going into Prep for the first time or going from primary into secondary school – those key times of change and transition can be very anxiety-provoking for kids.”
He said Kids Helpline is raising awareness in schools of “positive help-seeking” behaviour in children as young as five. “So we can normalise the idea that if they’re not feeling okay, it’s alright to reach out to someone for help.”Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636
