“Before my first loan I had played a lot of games in the under-23s and there were a lot of dark nights when I thought, ‘When am I going to get my chance?’,” he says. “I had worked so hard and I was beginning to wonder, ‘Is this going to happen?’.
After the loans at Blackpool then Luton, people at the club noticed a difference in Dewsbury-Hall. The boy who had left a year before had returned a man and Dewsbury-Hall was champing at the bit to show how far he had come, but he experienced another frustrating period. “For a couple months I had to get a bit of help from people but I had to stay strong. I had to stay dedicated, which I did, and then it came to the point where I finally got a chance and I was able to take it.”Much of the support he received came internally, especially from team-mate“I’ve learned a lot from Madders,” he says. “He has been a great help ever since I came into the first-team squad because“He really knows what to say at the right time, not only on the pitch but off it.
“I was living at home while I was playing last season and then going home to my bedroom at my mum’s house and it’s only very recently I’ve just moved out. It’s my first time so that’s not going to change me. I still pop round a lot after games. “I am watching myself now on Match of the Day as well. I used to watch that show all the time as a boy. That is life-changing. But it feels normal now, to play in the Premier League, but I will never take it for granted.”
