Killie were swept aside by Aberdeen as they suffered a 3-1 quarter-final defeat at Pittodrie
Derek McInnes revealed a hamstring injury in the warm-up prevented him from bringing on Kevin van Veen as Kilmarnock bowed out of the Scottish Cup.
McInnes insisted Aberdeen, who saw interim gaffer Neil Warnock step down after the game, deserve their place at Hampden, saying: "Kevin got a hamstring injury in the warm-up which I only found about after an hour or so when I wanted to use him. That explains why he didn’t come on. He added: "It’s a disappointing day. We picked today of all days not to get to our normal levels. We didn’t do enough to win the cup tie and this club hasn’t had enough cup runs over the last while.
Jamie McGrath opened the scoring on 11 minutes following a scrappy opening when Stuart Findlay was caught out by a long ball over the top. That allowed Bojan Miovski to find Junior Hoilett with a delicate back heel before the Canadian's angled drive was parried by Will Dennis into the path of the Irishman to bundle home.
