Civil defence forces carrying rifles and health workers wearing gas masks and red hazmat suits paraded in's capital in a celebration of the nation's 73rd anniversary that was a marked departure from past militaristic displays.

Kim's weight loss is more likely an attempt to improve his health, rather than a sign of illness however it did spark speculation about his wellbeing. Kim, known for heavy drinking and smoking, comes from a family with a history of heart problems. His father and grandfather, who ruled North Korea before him, both died of heart issues.
