🌳 Lawrence Langton: A true guardian of the forest bags a BEM! 🏅
Scunthorpe-born Lawrence Langton has been awarded a BEM for services to forestry after a 45-year career.
Throughout his illustrious career, Lawrence, who lives in the village of Laughton, has planted trees and created woods in various locations, including alongside new roads such as the M180 and A46. "When the letter first came through I thought it was about jury service. I then obviously opened it and for a split second I thought it was a scam, then I realised it was right and sat there and thought ‘Why me?’.
It also covers areas of Lincolnshire such as Market Rasen, Woodhall Spa and other woods in the county, but now he is mainly based at Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. Lawrence said he would best sum up his current role as a mentor as he is looking after the apprentices. In 2012 when the first apprenticeship schemes were launched, he volunteered to mentor despite it not being part of his role as a craftsperson.“I am trying to pass on my knowledge that I can remember to the youngsters,” he said.
