A chair for babies has been recalled from Kmart stores because of a choking hazard. The stitching around the elephant's ear can fall apart, releasing a small plastic mirror. 7NEWS

one of its baby products over fears it could pose a choking or suffocation risk to young children.

The product in question is Kmart’s Anko Baby Activity Chair which was sold instore and online between September 14, 2022 and July 6, 2023. The chair is designed for a young child to sit in and play with material animal designs on an activity panel.According to Product Safety Australia , the chair doesn’t comply with the mandatory standard for toys for children up to and including 36 months old.

“The material stitching around the elephant’s ear that secures the small plastic mirror may fail and release the mirror,” PSA said. The product comes with an activity panel with a series of animal designs, including an elephant with an ear that has a mirror attached to it. This mirror may pose a hazard to young children if it separates from the ear.This could pose a risk of choking and suffocation, which could lead to “severe injury or death” if a young child was to swallow the plastic mirror.Consumers should return the chair to their nearest Kmart store for a full refund.
