This review explores the Kogan SmarterHome™ 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier, a budget-friendly option compared to high-end models. The author details their experience using the dehumidifier, highlighting its effectiveness in removing moisture, drying clothes, and improving air quality.
Back in 2022, I, like many others, purchased a dehumidifier during Sydney's weeks of torrential rain and flooding. I attributed the lack of light and dampness in my dated apartment to the constant rainy weather, despite being indoors. However, just before Christmas, my dehumidifier (a 10L model costing over $500) malfunctioned. I hadn't realized how reliant I had become on it, far beyond just preventing mold.
It had become my go-to for drying clothes, reducing allergens, and generally making every room feel less humid and sticky. Losing this trusted device prompted me to try a more affordable option from Kogan, the SmarterHome™ 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier, which retails for just $189 for Kogan First members or $199 for non-members. Capable of removing up to 7L of moisture from the air, I was eager to test this smaller but equally powerful dehumidifier. Known for its 'dupes' for homewares and electronics, I had high expectations for the Kogan dehumidifier, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Upon arrival (with speedy delivery, I might add), I placed it directly in the bathroom, knowing it would absorb the most moisture. Within an hour, my damp towels were completely dry, and the room felt significantly less sticky and humid. Like most dehumidifiers, the SmarterHome 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier has an automated tip-over shut-off, ensuring the water never overflows or leaks. What I loved most about the Kogan device was the ability to control the settings using the free SmarterHome app, allowing me to set a timer for up to 8 hours. With low, medium, and high power settings plus a 90-degree adjustable wind outlet, the Kogan dehumidifier is easily customizable to suit all needs. I did notice that it appears louder than my previous model, but since it's placed in rooms not in use, it's not an issue
