KPMG's new vice chair of talent and culture shares how her experience prepared her for the role
Sandy Torchia, the national managing partner for KPMG's advisory practice, is taking on a new role.Torchia spoke exclusively with Insider about how her experience would influence her new job.Now, in July, Torchia will be celebrating the company's 125th anniversary, her own silver jubilee, and a brand-new role.
As someone who for the past 25 years was using HR services rather than designing them, Torchia believes she approaches this role with a fresh perspective of what employees on the business side of the company want. Torchia told Insider how her career in client services had influenced her leadership approach and prepared her for the new job.Throughout her career, Torchia has worked with some of KPMG's largest clients and led thousand-person teams, but her fulfillment came from elsewhere.
"One of the best pieces of advice that I've gotten is, you can't possibly work harder, so you've got to learn to work smarter," she said."So really making sure that, as I take on new and different roles, I think about how to leverage the team of people around me, technology, and data.
