The Ibrox club acted on Sunday night after the 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday where the players were again booed off the park.
Beale had revamped the squad in the summer but it was the third loss in seven cinch Premiership fixtures which left the Light Blues seven points behind leaders Celtic.
Former Rangers striker – turned pundit – Boyd told Sky Sports Scotland: “I don’t think there was any option.“Even when Rangers won last week against Motherwell, there were boos. The fans had enough. I don’t think they’ve seen improvement. “It is has to improve and unfortunately for Michael Beale, he pays the price for poor recruitment and poor performances on the pitch.“It’s not good enough. It’s got to be a lot better. And as I said, with the money spent in the summer, I don’t see any improvement.
Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell paid tribute to the man who had brought him to Ibrox at the turn of the year.
