As exhausted firefighters battle a reinvigorated Palisades blaze, authorities have confirmed the official death toll from the LA fires has risen to 13 — but that is likely to rise. Two additional fatalities were announced overnight, bringing the toll from the Eaton fire to eight. Five deaths have previously been confirmed from the Palisades fire. One of those killed is Australian man Rory Callum Sykes, 32, who was killed on Wednesday when the fire incinerated their 6.

The wildfire in Pacific Palisades has put leaders on the defensive and led Crowley to engage in a public spat with Mayor Karen Bass over resources, even as the battle against flames continues across the Los Angeles area. Crowley publicly criticised the city on Friday for budget cuts that she said made it harder for firefighters to do their jobs. She also cast blame on the city for water running out when about 20 per cent of the hydrants tapped to fight the Palisades fire went dry.
