At the White House briefing this morning, President Joe Biden said his administration was working with Trump’s team on the fires, which he described as the “worst in California history”.“They know every single thing we’re doing about this response,” Biden said, on Friday US time.Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were in the Oval Office, while California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass appeared virtually.
Biden said there was clear evidence of looting during the wildfires and the government had deployed police and the National Guard to boost security.Biden defended Bass, the LA mayor, over criticism about water supplies. He instead pegged the problem to utilities cutting power because they were worried about sparking more fires, which then hampered the ability to pump water.“This is complicated stuff, and you’re going to have a lot of demagogues out there trying to take advantage of it.
