Sky News Weather Meteorologist Rob Sharpe declares the onset of La Nina, bringing increased rainfall to Queensland this summer. This marks Australia's fourth La Nina event in five years.

Sky News Weather has declared that La Nina is underway, predicting more downpours for Queensland this summer. Meteorologist Rob Sharpe stated that this is Australia 's fourth La Nina event in five years, and while it's expected to be the shortest, it will bring increased rainfall.

Although much of Australia is currently experiencing drier than usual conditions, the declaration comes after the Pacific Ocean met the thresholds for La Nina, with a wetter-than-average December witnessed in Queensland. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) might also declare La Nina in the coming months if the NINO3.4 region in the Pacific Ocean continues to be cooler than normal. The BOM typically declares La Nina when the NINO3.4 values stay below -0.8C for three consecutive months. Currently, those values are close to -0.91C, exceeding the BOM's threshold. Sky News Weather, however, has declared La Nina based on the ocean and atmosphere exhibiting La Nina-like conditions for the past three months
