Albanese Government 'actively' considering an age restriction on social media as X fights order to take down Sydney church terror stabbing video

X is fighting the order, claiming it is"unlawful and dangerous", while Musk has accused Australia of"censorship" on his personal account. "Firstly, the democratically elected Australian parliament has chosen to enact a law. And that law enables an independent regulator, the e-safety commissioner, to issue notices, to remove certain content where it contravenes certain rules," she said.

Opposition communications spokesman David Coleman urged the government to look into age verification for kids on social media to ensure children are not exposed to certain graphic content such as the church stabbing or pornography. "We’re actively looking at issues around recommender systems, we’re scoping an age assurance pilot that won't only go to in terms of accessing particular content like pornography, but also whether there’s other use examples it can apply to."
