Deputy Labor Leader Richard Marles said the federal government should call an emergency meeting of state and territory governments in order to “deal with” the unfolding bushfire crisis.
Mr Marles told Sky News the fire season “begun very early and in an unprecedented way”, and described it as “the most dangerous season on our continent”.“It has to be done across the aisle, there is no doubt about that, and disaster management over a long period of time has to have a quality bipartisanship to it”, he said.
After warm, windy conditions at the end of last week that continued on Saturday, people whose belongings or homes have been badly damaged will be given a hand to get back on their feet. NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott urged people to monitor situations carefully and to listen to all advice given by Rural Fire Services.
