At state and federal elections after World War II, Labor and the Coalition secured more than 95 per cent of first-preference votes, by the late 1990s it fell to around 80 per cent. Pollsters and party insiders report that hospital crowding and ambulance response times alone are unlikely to swing votes. But what they’re finding is the health crisis is fuelling a wider pessimism among constituents.
