Labor is on track to cling to power, despite early swings to the Coalition, with Victorians facing an anxious wait to see who will form the state’s next government.
With less than 5 per cent of the vote counted, early figures showed a 5 per cent swing against Labor and only a small boost to the Coalition.To form a majority, the Coalition needs a swing of between 9 and 11 per cent, but a swing of just 5 per cent against Labor could force the ALP into minority.the government was expecting “big swings” against it in outer suburban seats such as Yan Yean, Cranbourne, Narre Warren North and Pakenham.
