Early Childhood Education Minister Anne Aly said the Labor government was considering fast-tracking childcare subsidies to help families struggling with the rising cost of living.

However, the childcare sector is facing widespread staff shortages with job vacancies expected to surge to 39,000 in the next 12 months. A Productivity Commission review is tasked with forecasting productivity gains from the policy and addressing structural issues in the industry.Dr Aly expects the review to get underway in the next six months and report back to Labor by 2024.
