Prime Minister Scott Morrison hit out at what he called a ‘despicable’ lie by Labor
has doubled down on Labor’s long-running claims that pensioners would be forced on to the controversial cashless welfare card under a re-elected Coalition, despite Scott Morrison describing the statement as a “despicable” lie.
“Labor will abolish the cashless debit card,” Dr Chalmers said. “The government will keep it, and they have talked about expanding it.” “It is simply not true. Anthony Albanese needs to come clear on this. He needs to rule this out because it is not true.” He received assurances from Senator Ruston and Mr Morrison that pensioners would not be added to the program and contacted Mr Albanese’s office and the Labor Party to express concerns about their comments.“What we are saying is that the claims that the government plans to make all pensioners use the cashless welfare card don’t have a basis and ... is actually not possible under current legislation,” he said.
