Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus says the legislation that will formulate a federal anti-corruption commission will provide it with the “powers of a royal commission”.
He also said the federal ICAC would have “important differences from the [previous] government’s model, it’ll be able to look into the past”. When asked how far back the federal ICAC would be able to look, he said it would be at the discretion of the commission.“It’s independent. That’s the key to it. It’s not there to accept instructions from the government of the day.”
