In the Ryan electorate, Labor and the Greens want a business case into a new bridge for the Bellbowrie peninsula. Julian Simmonds, the LNP incumbent, has yet to state his position.
A new bridge out of the flood-locked Bellbowrie-Moggill region is being proposed by Labor and Green candidates as the battle for Brisbane’s blue-ribbon Ryan electorate intensifies.
However, the incumbent member for Ryan, the LNP’s Julian Simmonds, has declined several requests to discuss the issue during the campaign. Helicopters were used to fly in supplies to the Moggill and Bellbowrie sections of the Ryan electorate during the recent floods.Greens candidate Elizabeth Watson-Brown, campaigning in Bellbowrie on Saturday, said a bridge to improve access to the Bellbowrie-Moggill peninsula was definitely an election issue.“That brings it in front of mind about getting some other connections across the river.”
He said voters had spoken to him about a bridge potentially replacing the Moggill ferry to Riverview and also a possible bridge to the Centenary suburbs.“What I am hearing at the doors is that there needs to be a proper consultation process to put together a proper business case,” he said.
