Sky News host Rita Panahi says the working class, Labor’s traditional voting base, has been placed “at odds” with the party which has gradually adopted more left-wing policies.

"The research does show that people who identify as working class do actually have fairly conservative attitudes to a range of social issues including things like immigration," she said.

Sky News host James Morrow pointed out the Labor party historically held protectionist polices. “It was always Labor who wanted to keep immigration restrictions up”. However, the modern Labor party have become the party of refugees and higher emigration who represent the more academic middle class as opposed to the interests of the blue-collar workers, he said. Andrews govt 'put Labor interests ahead of the public health of Victorians' | Sky News AustraliaAndrews govt 'put Labor interests ahead of the public health of Victorians' | Sky News AustraliaLiberal MP Tim Wilson says the Andrews government was more interested in fulfilling internal interests of the Labor Party than protecting the public health of Victorians. \n\n“You had a state government who was more interested in making sure that companies that hired their union mates took precedence over the public health of its citizens,” he said in reference to the bungled hotel quarantine operation. \n\nMr Wilson said the Victorian government and Premier Daniel Andrews were “all power and no accountability”, and told Sky News “this is why people are so angry, because they have done the right thing and the state government has not”. \n\n“Essentially he’s broken the contract between the people of Victoria and the state government,” he said. \n\n“Under the contract, it was up to every Victorian to make sure we didn’t see a spread of the virus, only to see that the group supposed to be responsible for enforcing the law and making sure there wasn’t a spread, was ultimately the key participant in spreading it. \n\n“That’s why people are so angry, because it does seem pretty clear to everybody that there’s a direct link between the internal interests of the Labor Party and the state government at the expense of the public health of Victoria.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Victorian outbreak keeping Australia in a ‘limbo land of suppression’ | Sky News AustraliaVictorian outbreak keeping Australia in a ‘limbo land of suppression’ | Sky News AustraliaAustralia must eliminate the virus in order to avoid living in a “limbo land of suppression” triggered by low levels of community transmission, according to Melbourne University epidemiologist Professor Tony Blakely.\n\nVictoria has recorded another 165 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours taking the state’s total active cases to just under 900, with 41 people currently in hospital.\n\nMr Blakely said Victoria “did have low grade community transmissions so we were going to get the virus breaking out at some point”.\n\nHe said the outbreak had “been brought forward in time and with greater intensity because of the muck up with the quarantine whereby it leaked out through the security guards into the north-western suburbs”.\n\n“This is a really bad situation for Victoria which stands out like a sore thumb” while other states have successfully eliminated the virus, he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. \n\n“We need to actually make use of this lockdown and go a lot harder and see if we can get rid of the virus, get Australia completely clear of it and then we can live in a relatively open manner until such a time as a vaccine arrives”.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia
