Labor is warning the Coalition will resurrect a proposal to water down laws that protect workers from losing money in pay negotiations as it targets Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s industrial relations plans while cost of living pressures start to bite.

“[We are] ensuring that we can go forward and pursue those legislative changes that we wanted to pursue. Remember, they were the product of getting unions together, employers together, over countless numbers of hours to ensure that we can come up with practical things that would make the industrial relations system work better,” Morrison said on Saturday.

During the early months of the pandemic, the Coalition government got working groups together with unions and business figures to discuss industrial law changes as COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures caused economic havoc across the country.
