Sir Keir Starmer describes massive 26% swing towards Labour in seat as 'truly historic'
Labour party candidate Chris Webb kisses his wife Portia during the Blackpool South Parliamentary by-election Labour has claimed a majority victory in the Blackpool South by-election, with its candidate Chris Webb taking 10,825 votes.The Tories came a narrow second to the Reform UK party, with 3,218 votes while Reform came third on 3,101.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said: “This seismic win in Blackpool South is the most important result today. “This is the one contest where voters had the chance to send a message to Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives directly, and that message is an overwhelming vote for change. “The swing towards the Labour Party in Blackpool South is truly historic and shows that we are firmly back in the service of working people.”“People no longer trust the Conservatives. Prime Minister: do the decent thing, admit you’ve failed and call a general election.”
