After the original breeder of the Labradoodle said he regretted creating the animal, owners have been sharing why they love their dogs.

In an interview with Australia's ABC News, Wally Conron, the man who first dared to mix Labrador Retriever with poodle, said he regrets creating the breed, largely due to the craze that followed.

I own a labradoodle, & can say it's the most even tempered, gentle, smart and easily trainable dog I've ever owned. It's a great family dog. pic.twitter.com/hLD8niN1Y0David Sinter, 45, from the Orlando, Florida, area, has a 7-year-old Labradoodle named Bentley –"like the car" – who has"always been a good dog."

"He's been fantastic," Garner said of Rupert, who hasn't had any health issues and is"calm, protective and affectionate." John Goodwin at the Humane Society of the United States told USA TODAY on Thursday one of the biggest problems with"designer breeds" is that many puppy mills focus more on maximizing the number of dogs they sell rather than the well-being of each dog."We've seen puppy mills cash in big time on these 'designer breeds,'" said Goodwin, the senior director of the group's campaign to stop puppy mills.

"I don't typically find a lot of genetic or health problems found with these breeds," he said of"designer dogs." When a dog is a mix of two breeds, it reduces the risk of inheriting the same gene from its two parents that causes a health problem or genetic defect," de Jong said.
