Regulars and first-timers alike were excited for the second day of the Grand National at Aintree
Thousands head to the event every year looking their best. Ranelagh Street was bustling with Aintree spectators as they headed to Liverpool Central station to catch the train to Aintree.
Xam and Kimberly were also first time attendees and had come from Birmingham. When asked why they decided to go to Ladies Day, Xam said: “Just for the fun of it. That’s what it’s about. Everyone’s looking good. Everyone's feeling happy.For others, Aintree is a family tradition. For Brian and John McManus, the Grand National acts as a unique family reunion. They both grew up in Dingle but now live in West Derby and Surrey respectively.
Dave and Phillip are also regular spectators. Dave said: “I'm not a massive horse racing fan but it's a great spectacle. Everyone enjoys themselves and we keep coming back.” Neil and Maxine, from Yorkshire, go to racecourses around the country but one is clear above the rest, as evidenced from their maroon Red Rum badges. Neil said: “Aintree is my favourite track, my favourite day, the atmosphere’s brilliant, everyone’s up for a pint. We go to tracks around the country but Liverpool and Aintree is our favourite day.”
