PARMA, Ohio — Trailing 13-0 at halftime to Padua Franciscan, Lake Catholic had to dig deep in the second half on both sides of the ball to come away with a gritty 21-13 road win on Friday night.
It took some waking up by the Cougars’ offense to get back on track after a sluggish first half, after which they trailed 13-0. But Lake Catholic head coach Marty Gibbons, whose team is 6-1 and ranked 15th in this week’s cleveland.com Top 25, told his players they were being tested by a solid Bruins group that came out ready to play.
“That was the halftime message, we’re going to the playoffs mathematically, this is a great test for us to get confidence for when we get into that situation when it comes up in the playoffs because it’s sure to happen,” Gibbons said. “We just had to recenter and it’s a credit to their relationships with each other and they just trusted each other they were going to make good plays in the second half.
