Members of the Lake County Board’s Public Works, Planning and Transportation Committee have warmed to the idea of allowing advertisements at Pace Suburban Bus stops.
Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart, who represents District 13, said one specific site with a need for a shelter is at a stop on Green Bay Road in North Chicago.
“We do need these bus stops to be protected by shelters,” Wilke said. “I think we need 10 times as many shelters, and 10 times as many stops. Can any of this money be put towards that? I know some of these are cost-shared between the cities and villages and Pace.” “If the county is building a project, we’ll install a concrete bus pad as part of the project if it’s agreeable to the local municipality,” Schneider said. “Installing the shelter, the physical shelter that surrounds the bus pad, is up to the municipality and Pace.
“I really stressed the importance of looking at their data to determine, ‘Where are people getting on and off? Where do we need these shelters?’” Hart recalled. “I think this is a great opportunity, with the exception of taking alcohol and tobacco ,” Roberts said. “Some of the high schools are advertising on their scoreboards and bringing in opportunities for funds, so I’m all for this.”
