Lake Jackson officers fatally shoot knife-wielding man following police chase
by two Lake Jackson police officers, department officials said.
The man was shot after charging officers while armed with a knife, according to police. The man's name wasn't released Thursday.Just before 10 a.m., police and EMTs were called to O.M. Roberts Elementary School, 110 South Cedar Lake, Lake Jackson, to a report of a man in a Dumpster on the school grounds. When the officers arrived, the man stole a truck and fled, according to the police department.
The man led police on a chase through the county, during which he rammed vehicles and tried to run over a police officer, according to the department. The stolen vehicle was stopped after it ran over spike strips and crashed into a ditch near the intersection of two county roads southwest of Alvin, according to police.
After the crash, the man got out of the vehicle armed with a knife and charged the two officers, according to police. The officers weren't named in the news release. Both of them have been put on administrative leave with pay, which is standard in police shootings, officials [email protected]
