A Lake Station man is facing charges after hiding under a blanket in his girlfriend’s back seat, ambushing her, then later biting her face and breaking her teeth with a cellphone.
Kenneth T. Stewart, 38, was charged Sept. 29. He was arrested that day. Online court records show an Oct. 4 court date was canceled. Another date has not yet been set. The woman told police she woke up at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 28 to Stewart standing inside her East Chicago house. He was “acting crazy” and possibly going through “drug withdrawals.” He jumped her and hit her “several times.” The woman managed to get him out of the house. About 20 minutes later, she jumped in the car.
She called 911, while Stewart got out and tried to get her to hang up. He took the phone, and turned it off. Stewart jumped in the driver’s seat. The woman got into the back seat, trying to stop him from stealing the car. He drove to Hoffman Street and Pine Avenue in Hammond. He threatened to kill them both. The woman managed to escape, driving to a Nice n Easy gas station, 4508 Calumet Ave., where she called the cops.
