The Huracan Sterrato - a Nomad for millionaires, with a roof and a V10. Tremendous.
You'd be forgiven for not remembering much about June 2019, given it feels even longer ago than the calendar dictates. But there was a notable bit of car news - Lamborghini revealedconcept that nobody had seen coming. They did it properly, too: wider tracks, increased ride height, improved approach and departure angles for really severe kerbs, skid plates, a titanium roll cage and more.
Or maybe they are. These latest spy shots from the Arctic show a Huracan that looks awfully similar to that 2019 concept, albeit in prototype form. Note the increased ride height, underbody protection and even roof rails on this one just like the Sterrato show car. Don't expect a light bar quite this rudimentary to make the cut, but some auxiliary lamps would be perfect for full overlanding kudos. And to look great on Instagram. Evidently, this isn't a regular Huracan prototype.
Plus, it would have to be something extra silly now, given the Huracan is approaching the end of its production cycle. A plug-in hybrid replacement is coming in 2023, which means there's precious little time left. But how better to bow out than a 640hp, rear-drive, rally raid supercar thing? Three years ago, Maurizio Reggiani spoke of Lamborghini being a"future shaper" with a car like the Sterrato, that it demonstrated"the Huracan's versatility and opens the door to yet another benchmark of driving emotion and performance." We all thought that versatility meant making both a track-focused variant and a convertible, yet here we are. Perhaps as supercars become ever more capable on road, off the beaten track is where fun is to be found.
