Two Lancashire Wilko stores and one Cumbrian store have announced they will close after failing to secure a rescue deal for the whole business.
A store in Nelson store one in Barrow is set to be closed down after Wilko announced they had gone into administration. A Burnley store will also close as part of a relocation. Wilko fell into administration last month, with insolvency experts from PwC spending recent weeks seeking to hammer out a rescue deal for the historic retailer.Administrators have held talks with a raft of suitors, including HMV owner Doug Putman, in order to save Wilko’s 400 stores and 12,500 jobs.
The raft of closures next week will lead to to 1,016 redundancies, while the company has also announced hundreds of further job losses affecting warehouse and service centre staff.
