Flood alerts and a warning are in place as heavy rain batters the region today
Being almost halfway through March, people are eager for the warmer, sunnier days to finally make an appearance.
However people in Lancashire are being warned to take shelter today as more torrential rain hits the region. Urgent 'act now' flood warnings remain in place in parts of the county with more heavy rain forecast across the day. The warnings are in the Wyre estuary at Thornton, the coastline south of Heysham and in North Morecambe Bay. The Environment Agency says 'flood is expected' and is urging people to 'stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as the expected large waves and sea spray will be dangerous'.
It says: "Another wet day across the region with further outbreaks of rain, which could turn heavy at times, particularly in the north. Some drier periods are possible across the south, however remaining cloudy. Mild and breezy. Maximum temperature 13C." Tonight's forecast states: "Remaining cloudy overnight with further persistent and sometimes heavy rain, mostly in the north of the region. Remaining breezy, especially at coasts and over hills, and mild. Minimum temperature 8C.
