LOS ANGELES ― The Lance Lynn the Dodgers acquired from the Chicago White Sox on July 28 had a 6.47 ERA and only six wins to show for his first 21 starts of the season. Physically, he was built like an ox with a fuller beard than Paul Bunyan. Statistically, he was a shell of his former self.
In four games with the Dodgers, Lynn has allowed a total of four runs, good for a 1.44 ERA. Thursday, he succeeded while allowing Milwaukee to put the ball in play and striking out three of the 25 batters he faced. Of his 87 pitches, only seven resulted in a swing and a miss. In the eighth inning, Payamps relieved Burnes, who threw 98 pitches and induced 17 swings and misses. He threw just two pitches to Barnes, both belt-high sliders. Barnes pummeled the second pitch 371 feet to left field. It was his first home run since Sept. 20 of last season.
