'We are deeply devastated by this truly tragic incident'

Lancashire County Council has announced it will conduct a safeguarding review into the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy outside his home in Penwortham.

The council said they were 'devastated by this truly tragic incident' in a statement released this week. They are now committed to conducting a 'thorough safeguarding review' as is standard practice when an incident such as this takes place. Named locally as Layton, the eight-year-old passed away on Tuesday , after police said he was hit by a black Ford Transit van. Neighbours said they had seen Layton playing outside his home that afternoon. The incident occurred at around 4.20pm on Bilsborough Hey in Penwortham.At the time of his death, Layton was under the care of Lancashire County Council and a foster family.

"Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and our dedicated foster carers who are facing unimaginable grief and sorrow during this incredibly difficult time. "In the wake of this unfortunate event, we are committed to conducting a thorough safeguarding review, as is our standard practice whenever such a tragic incident takes place."
