A former Army captain from Lancashire fought off stinging jellyfish to become the first person to swim from the UK to the Isle of Man.
He dreamt up the the challenge after joking he should swim to see his parents, who live in Peel on the island, while the Covid-19 restrictions were in place. He had to abandon his first attempt in July 2022 after worsening weather conditions forced him to turn back. But despite swimming ‘face first’ into a jellyfish and being 'stung on the legs and arms about every 10 minutes', he landed ashore in one piece.
