"They seem to have held on and tend to be building up in numbers again, so we're a bit worried how they're going to be later on in the year."Grazier at Gipsy Plains, south of Cloncurry, Clayton Curly said the number of rats roaming through outback farmlands could continue to rise."We've already had a vehicle chewed up and I've been to the repair shop, so there's going to be a bit more of that coming.
"I'd assume they'll be bad for the rest of the year, but fingers crossed something comes along and they die out, but I don't know what it would be … I don't know what will get rid of them.Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell said local councils were working to keep on top of the issue, but property owners should be responsible for maintaining their own homes.
